Last week, in Elista, they tried to hold a multi-day rally under the slogan "No to terror - no to Ilyumzhinov." The attempt ended in tragedy: 89 injured in hospitals, 5 in intensive care, 15 missing, 3 in the morgue.

Ilyumzhinov was accused of links with Chechen terrorists. A wide variety of forces opposed him: the Union of Chernobyl victims, the Combat Brotherhood (an organization of veterans of Afghanistan), the local public organization Rodnoy Krai. The rally was joined by a wide variety of parties - from the Communist Party to the Union of Right Forces.

One of the rally organizers Andrei Goryaev told us that he had evidence of contacts between Ilyumzhinov and Chechen terrorists. As a result, it turned out to be a videotape, on which yesterday's Chechen fighters, who fell under the amnesty, and intelligence officers who infiltrated Chechen separatist detachments, talk about their affairs with the Kalmyk president.

Even if the cassette is not a fake, then it is a sin for Kalmyks to complain about defamatory connections to the president, because in the republic there has never been a single explosion, not a single hostage-taking ... But after Beslan, many people try to solve their problems, referring to terrorism. Although Kirsan Nikolaevich already has enough sins: riot, corruption, dictatorship... But this, according to the organizers of the rally, does not bother anyone in Moscow.

Ilyumzhinov decided not to disperse the rally, but to liquidate it.

At first, the protesters were persuaded. The head of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Ponomarev met with the organizers. He sympathized with the demonstrators, but said he was bound by the call of duty. He said that the leadership of the republic was determined to take the most stringent measures, and advised to move the rally from the main square to a more modest place. They didn't listen.

Then the meeting was banned. Against the law - on the day of the event. The protesters did not heed the illegal ban.

Parallel to the rally, a meeting of the public council under the President of Kalmykia was taking place in the local recreation center. They decided what to do with the public protest. It is significant that the local lads took part in the meeting. Crime bosses were present: Mazan, Lame Batyr, looking around the Republic of Barik.

On September 21, at exactly 11:00 pm, the demonstrators closed the rally until the next morning, but since among them were visitors from remote areas, not everyone left the square, some spent the night right there.

At 23.30 the police appeared and demanded to leave the square, as there was information that the square was mined. The demonstrators partially vacated the space, but no one began to look for the mine. Police UAZ vehicles drove into the vacated place and OMON units in special equipment entered.

00.20. The riot police blocked the demonstrators, the prosecutor of the republic Sergei Khlopushin appeared from behind their shields and demanded to disperse in the name of the Constitution. From the crowd, he was asked which constitutional article he had in mind and who would answer for illegal actions. The prosecutor replied that he was taking responsibility, and the riot police went on the assault.

The demonstrators hid the women, the elderly and children inside the crowd, the Afghan veterans came forward and took the blow. They were beaten with rubber truncheons, shot with stun grenades, one of them was hit in the head by a grenade, and an artificial arm was torn out of the other's shoulder. One of the dead is an "Afghan". Almost no one offered resistance, people lay down on the ground, grappling with each other. The riot police were walking straight at the people.

Helped the policemen. They were followed by representatives of local criminal groups and finished off the demonstrators ... In addition to the locals, the Vikings also participated in the action. It is already known that "fraternal international assistance" was provided by policemen from Stavropol, the Rostov company of SOBR, a platoon of Ossetian policemen and a platoon of Volgograd, as well as two task forces from Dagestan and Astrakhan.

The "Varangians" were led by police general Anatoly Sysoev, acting head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Southern Federal District. Therefore, the new presidential envoy, Dmitry Kozak, will also have to answer.

The rally was liquidated in the most literal sense. In the morning, an elderly janitor went out to clean the nearby yard and found a corpse on the territory entrusted to her. It was the body of the farmer Batyr Bembeev.

The circumstances of his death were later revealed. He was not killed in the heat of battle. He was detained along with protesters Andrei Sveshnikov, Boris Anglaev and Oroltan Bambaev. All four were taken to the first stronghold of Elista. Then the brothers from the so-called Bugrovskaya criminal group appeared there, the policemen handed over the arrested to them. All four were taken to the steppe and beaten there until 5 am. Three survivors were returned to the stronghold at dawn, and Bembeev's body was taken to the place where he was detained.

The next day, several boxes of vodka were brought to the outskirts of Elista in the village of Solnechny, a small one with great criminal traditions, and left right on the street. Local punks, seen on the square as volunteer assistants to the police, drank to the health of President Kirsan all day long.

And the leadership of the Republic of Kalmykia began to talk to the Kalmyk people. The most amazing explanation was voiced on local television by the prosecutor Khlopushin. According to him, the rally was organized by the same terrorists who staged the attack in Beslan. The prosecutor explained that they wanted to set up an Islamic caliphate in Kalmykia (a predominantly Buddhist republic).
