The Russian team successfully performed at the Paralympic Games, the closing ceremony that will be held on Tuesday in Athens. Medals were won significantly more than in past games. This was on the air of the Echo of Moscow radio station by the president of the Russian Paralympic Committee Vladimir Lukin.

The Russian national team won 16 gold, 8 silver and 17 bronze medals in the Paralympic Games in Athens, taking 11th place in the team event . The final victory was won by Chinese athletes with disabilities, which have a total of 141 medal (63 of which the highest dignity). In second place is the team of Great Britain, and in the third - Canada.

“Of course, our team cannot compete in the struggle of a high place in an unofficial general standings, because we simply did not develop some sports,” Lukin noted. “But in the forms in which the Russians participated (9 out of 19), they performed very well.”

Lukin added that although athletes strive for victory, for people who watch the Paralympic Games, the main thing is to show that in Russia, despite the difficult economic situation, people live not only for themselves, but take care of their neighbors.

“We are participating in the fifth Paralympics, and recently the Paralympic Committee has managed to do a lot to make our team with dignity,” Lukin remarked. “We pierced the preparation for the Paralympics in a separate line in the budget, which allows you to conduct full -fledged training of athletes and purchase worthy sports equipment.”
