| Altai authorities are investigating the cause of the mass deaths of drug addicts In the Altai city of Rubtsovsk, in just three days - from September 25 to 27 - 53 people were taken to hospitals with drug poisoning. When it became clear that drug poisoning was widespread, they began to look for drug addicts everywhere.
Half-dead people were found in cars at gas stations and in doorways. Everyone had the same symptoms - almost immediately after the injection, the person had difficulty breathing. Those who did not have time to help simply suffocated. A total of 22 people were hospitalized. Some victims were transported to Barnaul by air ambulance. Most of the drug addicts, having recovered, fled from hospitals, so now only three victims remain in hospitals. Ten more people died from drug use over these two days.
The causes of the unprecedented emergency are being investigated. To monitor the situation, the first vice-governor of the region, Vasily Bormatov, flew to Rubtsovsk by helicopter on Tuesday. The situation with drug addiction in Rubtsovsk has always been difficult. This city is surrounded by colonies, and prisoners who have served their time very often remain in this town. In a city with a population of 70 thousand people, 1,172 people are officially registered in the drug dispensary. Experts estimate that the actual number of drug addicts is six to seven times higher. At the same time, the city department for combating drug trafficking has only 18 employees, of which eight are operatives. The forces are clearly unequal.
There are more than a thousand places where you can buy drugs in Rubtsovsk. And from Kazakhstan (where the bulk of drugs come to Altai) “two thousand roads, paths and paths” lead to this area.
The majority of local drug addicts are addicted to heroin. The cause of the poisoning could have been the arrival of low-quality “products” into the city. However, in the same way, the “product” could be of too good quality. It is known that the usual reason for an overdose is simple - drug addicts use a “diluted” drug for a long time and get used to a certain dose volume. When one day they receive the pure product, without knowing it, they inject themselves with the usual dose, which in this case becomes fatal. Rubtsovsky experts say that similar stories always happen when drug addicts switch from one supplier to another, since the quality of the “product” is different for everyone. However, such mass poisonings have never happened before.
It is interesting that three weeks before the emergency, one of the local newspapers published information about possible supplies of obviously poisoned drugs from Kazakhstan. It was reported that a certain resident of Kazakhstan decided to fight drug addiction in this strange way. The local police then simply laughed at this information.
