| The President of Karachay-Cherkessia renounced his son-in-law so as not to lose his position The complicated criminal epic with the disappearance and murder of seven local residents in Karachay-Cherkessia, which led the republic’s leadership to a serious crisis, received a new continuation over the weekend.
About 300 relatives of the missing people, who seized the building of the Government House of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic on Thursday, finally agreed to disperse on Friday through the efforts of the presidential envoy in the Southern Federal District Dmitry Kozak, who urgently arrived in Cherkessk. As the plenipotentiary promised them, the investigation team of the Prosecutor General's Office took over the investigation, and on Saturday the court issued a warrant for the arrest and search of Ali Kaitov, a member of the local parliament, the general director of Kavkazcement JSC and, concurrently, the son-in-law of the President of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Mustafa Batdyev.
In turn, Mr. Batdyev himself immediately announced a reward of 5 million rubles for the capture of his relative, who is considered involved in the kidnapping and murder of those seven people. And yesterday the President of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic renounced his son-in-law, announcing that his daughter Lyudmila had filed for divorce from Mr. Kaitov. According to some reports, the divorce petition was filed last Friday.
On the same Friday, a representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that the case of the disappearance of seven people, which almost ended in the overthrow of the republic’s leadership, had already been practically solved. However, the situation in the republic still remained turbulent. Relatives of the missing continued to besiege law enforcement agencies, trying to find their loved ones, as well as the hated Ali Kaitov, who, according to them, was behind this murder. In addition, the background to this whole story, as well as the role of local police officers and officials in it, was not yet fully clear.
Missing reports for 7 people were filed with the police on October 11. However, local law enforcement agencies officially recognized this fact only a week later, on October 18, after the murder of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Ansar Tebuev. Relatives of the missing people claimed from the very beginning that it was Kaitov who called their loved ones to the fatal meeting, and on the same day machine gun fire was heard near his cottage. But at first, the local Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor’s office only confirmed the fact of a night shootout at Kaitov’s dacha, stating that no traces of murder were found there. On October 19, outraged relatives of the missing men unauthorizedly entered the territory of Kaitov’s household, where they found blood clots, shell casings and bullet marks.
Representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office, who intervened in the case after the seizure of the Government House, confirmed these facts on Thursday, and initially three private security guards and three policemen who were guarding Kaitov's dacha on that fateful day were detained. On Saturday, the commander of a separate OVO company under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Senior Lieutenant Dremlyuk, was also detained. A representative of the Prosecutor General's Office explained that based on the testimony of those previously detained, there is every reason to believe that Dremlyuk is involved in this crime. Along the way, four more security guards and police officers, as well as Ali Kaitov himself, were put on the wanted list. The latter, moreover, is suspected of murder.
Although what lies behind this whole story remained unclear yesterday. Relatives of the missing people continued to claim that Kaitov was behind this whole story - he allegedly killed competitors in the struggle for shares in the Circassian Chemical Production Association. However, representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office continued to claim that they had no information about the connection of this crime with the chemical plant. The fate of the missing people themselves also remained unclear. In search of their bodies, local police have been non-stop combing the outskirts of Cherkessk for the past two days, but without success. And on Saturday, the interception service recorded a call from the mobile phone of one of the missing men. It was made from one of the suburbs of Cherkessk.
