"Riga Raskolnikov" admitted in 38 murders of old women

The detained in Riga in early 2003, 28-year-old Caspar Petrov admitted to the murder of 38 old women, the press service of the State Prosecutor's Office reports.

During the investigative experiments, more and more episodes were opened in the case of Petrov, which was detained on February 3, 2003 on suspicion of murder. Earlier, he was accused of 32 murders, but the recently accused himself admitted to six more murders.

In the press, Petrov received the nickname "Riga Raskolnikov", since the victims of Caspar were lonely elderly women, whom he introduced himself as a master of the gas service and asked to let him into the house.

After Petrov got into the apartment, he strangled the mistress and took all the valuable things. According to the prosecutor’s office, the accused earned 18 thousand lats (30 thousand dollars) on the murders, RIA Novosti reports.

The court in the Petrov case will begin no earlier than mid -2005, since new details may come up in the case. The accused faces 20 years in prison to a life sentence. With the entry into the EU, the death penalty in Latvia was canceled.
