Representative of Viktor Yanukovych: The court went beyond the complaints of Yushchenko

The confrontation in Ukraine, which was noted during the presidential election, may also be transferred to the third stage of the electoral process. This opinion, according to ITAR-TASS, expressed on Friday the representative of the presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych in the Central Election Commission Stepan Gavrish.

“The confrontation may be transferred to the third round,” he said.

“This is a political decision - a way to get out of a political crisis, but whether it will become like that, I'm not sure,” Gavrish added. According to him, an option is possible when "the wall goes to the wall again."

Gavrish also has the question of "fulfilling an agreement on a septum together with political reform." "The court went beyond the complaints of Viktor Yushchenko, where there was no request to hold a second vote," Gavrish said. "We assumed such a decision, so we left the court session before the announcement of the decision."

Stepan Gavrish also stated that there are several options for the development of events in the country after the decision of the Supreme Court to hold a second vote in the second round of the presidential elections.

At the same time, he could not answer the question of whether Viktor Yanukovych was ready to participate in the partition. “I don't know,” said Sergey Gavrish.

He stated that there are “several options” for the development of events, in particular, “Viktor Yushchenko’s easy victory” and “Viktor Yanukovych’s heavy victory”.

According to the Law on the Elections of the President of Ukraine, if Viktor Yanukovych refuses to participate in repeated voting no later than 10 days before the day of voting, then the name of the candidate who took third place in the first round - the leader of the social page Alexander Moroz, will be included in the ballot instead of him.

If Viktor Yanukovych does this later, one candidate remains for a second vote - Viktor Yushchenko, who needs to gain a majority of votes - at least 50% plus one voice of voters participating in the vote.

Meanwhile, the representative of Viktor Yanukovych Sergey Gavrish said that the decision of the Supreme Court adopted on Friday to hold a second vote in the second round of the presidential election was predicted.

"We predicted a similar decision option, and the court had an extremely difficult legal prospect, since the law does not provide for a single opportunity to cancel the decision that was drawn up by the preparation of the CEC protocol on the basis of the protocols of territorial election commissions," said Sergey Gavrish.

“The court intervened in this result, I think, based exclusively from the political situation, from the political crisis in Ukraine, that is, I actually fulfilled the function of the political institution,” said the representative of Viktor Yanukovych.

He said that this could be a topic for legal discussion, however, "probably it does not matter anymore." “We congratulate the court, because we cannot congratulate the people,” said Sergey Gavrish.

The further development of the situation, according to Sergei Gavrish, depends on the politicians - "as far as they consistently fulfill, on the one hand, this decision (the Supreme Court - IF), on the other hand, is a memorandum with the participation of international arbitrators that political reform should be carried out at the same time, and whether it will be carried out."

“Of course, the situation will not look calm, since the Supreme Court transferred, unfortunately, the conflict of the second round to the third tour, so to speak,” added Sergey Gavrish.
