Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein demanded to rename the college of lawyers, who intends to defend him at the process that was being preparing in Baghdad, to the “support group in defense of the president of Saddam Hussein, his comrades and all prisoners and imprisoned in Iraq.”
He stated this at a meeting on Thursday with Iraqi lawyer Halil Ad-Dlimi Hussein, ITAR-TASS reports.
Saddam also warned the Iraqi people against participating in the currently preparing elections to the transition parliament. He emphasized the need for the unity of the Iraqis and the "historical role" of Iraqi theologians in the current conditions.
The former Iraqi leader was interested in the living conditions of the Iraqi population. He critically spoke about the role of the International Red Cross Committee in Iraq, which, according to him, "does not fulfill his humane mission" and four meetings with whose representatives "were useless."
The former Iraqi leader expressed satisfaction with the withdrawal of the Spanish troops from Iraq and praised the role of France and Germany in connection with the events taking place in the country.
He refuted the widespread by the American army, "distorted with the aim of his discredit" information about the circumstances of his arrest in the bunker in Tikrit on December 13 last year, saying that he was "captured in Baghdad during the sunset prayer."
The official representative of the college of lawyers, who was defending Saddam Hussein, Ziyad al-Hasauin announced the day before in the Jordanian capital that the overthrown president is contained in a fully isolated 15-meter room and has no access to information about the events taking place in the world.
The meeting with him lasted four and a half hours and took place in "very stringent conditions under the supervision of military guard." According to Al-Hasain, Saddam Hussein is healthy, does not refuse to eat food, but "going with him does not comply with the provisions of the Geneva Agreements."
Af-day was taken to the place of imprisonment on an American tank. He does not know the location of this place, but assumes that it is in Baghdad.
