President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin does not believe that the Russian government will agree to the proposal of State Duma deputies and will introduce economic sanctions against his republic. “I will never believe that the Russian government will take economic sanctions against Moldova,” the RIA Novosti agency quotes the president .

According to Voronin, the Russian government, “unlike the Duma, is not so susceptible to political conditions.”

At the same time, the president said that Chisinau “has never played any games behind Russia’s back.” “We are interested in developing good relations with all countries, including deepening relations with Russia,” the president emphasized. According to him, the republic’s course towards European integration does not mean that Moldova is “opposing itself to Russia.”

Let us recall that on Friday the State Duma decided to send a parliamentary request to the head of the Russian government, Mikhail Fradkov. The deputies recommended that the Cabinet of Ministers, if the Moldovan authorities continue the policy of blockade of Transnistria and destabilize the situation around it, consider possible retaliatory measures of the Russian Federation.

Among the proposed measures of the Russian Federation, in particular, the following were named: refusal to supply to Russia alcoholic beverages and tobacco products produced in the Republic of Moldova (except for those produced in Transnistria), supply of energy resources to Moldova at world prices (except for supplies to the territory of Transnistria ), the introduction of a visa regime for citizens of the republic, with the exception of residents of Transnistria.
