The head of Hong Kong leaves post two years before the end of his authority

The head of the administration of the Special Administrative District, Syangan Dun Jianhua, officially announced his resignation. At the same time, the resignation was announced more than two years before the expiration of his powers.

"I resigned from the post of head of the administration of the special administrative district of the Syangan," said Dun Jianhua. According to him, the reason for the resignation was a deterioration in health, RIA Novosti reports.

“Starting from the fourth quarter of last year, the state of my health began to deteriorate, in this situation I decided that the correct decision would resign,” said Dong Jianhua.

Dun Jianghua also confirmed that he was nominated to the post of deputy chairman of the People’s Political Advisory Council of China (NPKSK). Finally, the resignation of the head of Hong Kong will be framed on Saturday, March 12, after Dun Jianghua, as expected, will be elected deputy chairman of the NPKSK.

Dun Jianghua emphasized that the resignation is not caused by the disappointment of the central Chinese authorities in its managerial abilities. “I am leaving only because further finding the head of Hong Kong will lead to an even greater deterioration in my health and affect the effectiveness of my work,” he emphasized.

Observers argued that the poor health of the Hong Kong leader is only a pretext for resignation. Experts note that the central authorities have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with how the Hong Kong authorities solve urban problems.

Dong Jianhua noted that he leaves Hong Kong in a favorable economic situation. "Today, the Hong Kong economy is on the rise, stability in the political and social spheres is felt," he said.

The temporarily acting head of the Hong Kong administration was the chief Minister of the District Administration Donald Tsang. He held various posts in the British colonial administration until 1997 and is considered one of the most experienced officials in Hong Kong.

According to the Basic Law of Sangan (Hong Kong), the elections of the new head of the administration should be held within 180 days after the resignation of Dong Jianhua. The new head of the Sangan administration will be elected at a meeting of a special election committee consisting of 800 members representing various political and business circles of the city.

According to the Hong Kong press, new elections must be held no later than mid -July of this year. Observers believe that Donald Tsang has great chances to become the second head of the Sangan administration. “If Tsang does not make big mistakes in the coming months, Beijing is likely to support his candidacy,” said Joseph Chen, a professor of political science of the Hong Kong Country Polytechnic University.

It is still unclear for how long the new head of Hong Kong will be elected, since this situation is not clearly spelled out mainly by the law of Seangan. “This issue is now being worked out by my colleagues, and I am sure that in the near future the Chinese authorities will make a decision on this subject,” said Dong Jianhua.

According to most experts, the new head of the Sejangan will stay in power to the formal end of the powers of Dong Jianhua in 2007, after which new elections will be held in the city.
