The new authorities of Kyrgyzstan are ready to guarantee the immunity of the country's President Askar Akaev, RIA Novosti reports .

The country's acting president, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, said that there was a law that guaranteed the immunity of Akaev as the first president of Kyrgyzstan. “We must work within the framework of this law,” Bakiyev said.

“On my part, there are no intentions to persecute Akaev,” Bakiyev emphasized. “He will remain in history as the first president who did a lot to establish the sovereignty of Kyrgyzstan.”

He also pointed out that the private property of the Akaev family, like any private property in Kyrgyzstan, is protected by law.

It is unknown where the President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev is currently located. Russia and Kazakhstan, where, according to various sources, Akayev and his family may be hiding, say that they do not have any information about his whereabouts.

At a press conference in Bishkek, Bakiyev said that “counter-revolutionary protests” had begun in the republic. According to him, there are special groups in Bishkek that organize various provocations. “What happened in Bishkek these days is all on their conscience,” he pointed out.

He confirmed reports that people organized in the Kemin region were heading to Bishkek. “People there have risen up, the facts are confirmed,” he admitted. “Special services and regional leaders are working with these people in order to prevent unrest,” Bakiyev noted.

Bakiyev also confirmed information that an attempt on his life may be being prepared. “They are now dealing with the issues of my safety. It is the will of God, the will of those people who are next to me,” Bakiyev said. “I think that everything will be all right.”

Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan recognized the legal powers and registered deputies of the newly formed unicameral parliament. 8 out of 10 present members of the Central Election Commission of the court voted for registration, only two voted against. One CEC member was absent.

Let us recall that on Saturday morning the upper house of the old parliament announced that until the presidential elections scheduled for June 26, it would retain its powers and would not recognize the new parliament.
