On Saturday, a meeting of both houses of the old, bicameral parliament of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the new, unicameral parliament, began in Bishkek, reports

The agenda of the upper house of parliament includes approving the cabinet of ministers of the interim government and setting the date for the presidential elections. The Lower House is discussing behind closed doors the possibility of introducing a state of emergency.

As it became known, on Friday evening the leaders of key political government structures signed a compromise memorandum according to which the legitimacy of the current parliament is preserved until April 14. After this, legislative power should pass to those deputies of the new parliament whose legal status is not disputed in court.

In addition, the adopted memorandum recognizes the legitimacy of the appointed acting prime minister and president of the country, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, as well as the composition of the Supreme and Constitutional courts of the republic and the composition of the country's central election commission, Interfax reports with reference to Kyrgyz television.

The “parliamentary compromise” does not suit many deputies who demand an extension of the powers of the bicameral parliament. Members of the unicameral parliament are being called “impostors” and are being asked to expel them from the parliament building and reconsider the memorandum.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the upper house of the Kyrgyz parliament, Altay Borubaev, resigned. Muratbekh Mutaliev was appointed as the new speaker. Vice-speaker of the upper house of parliament Sorombay Dzheenbekov also asked for his resignation.
