Sheregesh will cost $100 million

Yesterday in Tashtagol in the south of the Kemerovo region, the board of the Kemerovo region administration approved the construction of the Sheregesh sports and entertainment ski complex on Mount Zelenaya at its offsite meeting. The shareholders of OAO Coal Company Kuzbassrazrezugol (KRU) agreed to invest about $100 million in this project.

The new sports and entertainment complex "Sheregesh" with an area of ​​200 hectares will be located on the free slope of Mount Zelenaya. It is expected that it will have 11 tracks with a total length of 26 km, five cable cars (one gondola, one towing and three chairlifts), hotels with 5,000 beds and restaurants. It will be able to serve up to 10 thousand people per hour. Such a facility will be the only complex of international level beyond the Urals with tracks that meet FIS standards. This year, Gornaya Shoria was visited by 110 thousand skiers.

For the first time, plans for the construction of a modern ski and sports and entertainment complex in the south of Kuzbass were announced on January 27 this year during the signing of an agreement on social and economic cooperation between the administration of the Kemerovo region and KRU. The Governor of Kuzbass, Aman Tuleev, called this project a "non-random decision", which took three years to complete. Andrey Bokarev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KRU, agreed that there are really good climatic conditions in Gornaya Shoria, which make it possible to build a ski complex, hold World Cup stages and train the Olympic reserve on it. But then the parameters of the Sheregesh complex and the size of the planned investments in it were more modest. It was supposed that it would occupy an area of ​​70 hectares, and the coal miners would allocate 700 million rubles for the construction of the first stage of Sheregesh.

In the course of coordination, Sheregesh increased in price and size. As Aman Tuleev explained at a press conference in Prokopyevsk on Thursday, “Green Mountain is a kind of Shanghai, in which there was no integrated approach, and we want to have ski slopes, an alpine village, and a chain of hotels.” Yesterday, the board approved just such a plan for the development of the mountain. This year it is planned to start construction of housing, restaurants, several lifts (they will be handled by specialists from Austria). Next year, Sheregesh will have two hotels, two ski slopes, and public catering establishments. Ultimately, the complex is planned to arrange 11 ski slopes.

As Andrey Bokarev noted at a press conference in Prokopyevsk, “if it works out”, in the future it is planned to build three ski jumps, a bobsleigh track, a ski stadium, an artificial snowmaking system, a swimming pool, and a sports and entertainment complex as part of the complex. During the construction of Sheregesh, the investor, who invests about $100 million in it, plans to create not only a recreation and entertainment center, but also an Olympic ski training center with international-level slopes. According to Andrei Bokarev, there are none in Russia yet. In the future, for the development of this region of Kuzbass in the summer, according to Aman Tuleev, it is necessary to build a road from Tashtagol to Lake Teletskoye and to Gorno-Altaisk. Transport Minister Igor Levitin, who visited Kemerovo on March 16-17, promised that the ministry would try to attract private investors to this construction site.
