At a solemn meeting in the National Parliament, the new President of TRK was declared Mehmet Ali Talat, who won the elections on April 17 and replaced the 81-year-old veteran of Turkish-Kirkoye policy Rauf Denctash in this post.

Talat is considered a supporter of the unification of Cyprus and the rapprochement of TRK with the EU. In addition to the representatives of the leading Turkish-Kirki parties at his inauguration was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Abdullah Gul.

On the eve of the Cabinet of Ministers, TRSK resigned so that the elected president officially took office. On the same day, Talata resigned the powers of the prime minister of a self-proclaimed state.
