US soldiers who fired at a car with an Italian journalist are recognized as innocent

American investigators came to the conclusion about the innocence of American soldiers in the death of an Italian intelligence officer Nikola Calipari at a checkpoint in Baghdad on March 4 this year.

None of the American troops committed any offense and will not be punished, the representative of the American command said. However, the Italian side expressed disagreement with the results of the investigation, RIA Novosti reports.

Representatives of Italy in the joint commission to investigate the incident refused to approve the conclusions of the Americans.

Both sides agree that the soldiers had no intention to kill the Italians. Meanwhile, the American side has guilty for the incident on Italy. From the point of view of the Pentagon, the shelling occurred because the Italians did not warn the US military about the upcoming release of the hostage, as well as because their car moved with excess speed and did not dwell on the requirements of the patrol.

According to the testimony of Italians who survived after the incident, their car moved at low speed, and the fire was opened after the driver of the Italian car stopped it, ITAR-TASS reports.

The Italian military intelligence officer Nikola Calipari was killed on March 4 , when a car that was transported to the Baghdad airport from Iraqi captivity Italian journalist Julian Sigrena fired at the American patrol.
