The case of Pumane's death has been sent to court

The Moscow prosecutor's office sent to court for consideration on the merits the case of Andrey Semigin, head of the police department at the Presnensky District Department of Internal Affairs, and Iosif Smereko, the senior shift on duty, who are accused of negligence, which negligently caused the death of former submarine officer Alexander Pumane. According to RIA Novosti, this was reported in the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office.

The Moscow prosecutor's office filed charges against two police officers earlier this year. "The head of the 83rd police department, Major Andrey Semigin, and the officer on duty in the same department, Captain Iosif Smereko, were charged under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia ("negligence resulting in the death of a person by negligence")," said the official representative of the prosecutor's office of the capital.

The prosecutor's office believes that "improper performance by employees of their official duties contributed to the death of the detainee Pumane during interrogation."

Pumane was detained by police officers on September 18, 2004. Some time later, the detainee was taken to the Sklifosovsky Institute for Emergency Medicine, where he died. According to the preliminary conclusion of the experts, the death occurred as a result of bodily injuries.

Earlier, the police detained two people who, according to the investigation, were Pumane's accomplices in the preparation of an assassination attempt on one of the capital's businessmen. One of them was charged with preparing to kill, as well as illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of explosives, and the second with illegal possession of explosives.
