| In Nizhnevartovsk, the case of a Hizb-ut-Tahrir activist was brought to court In the Ural Federal District, an active struggle began with representatives of the extremist Islamic organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which official Tashkent accused of provoking the Andijan events at the end of last week. One of the first to suffer was an activist of the organization in Nizhnevartovsk, Jalolkhon Khodzhiev. The day before, the prosecutor's office of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug transferred a criminal case against this member of Hizb-ut-Tahrir to the Nizhnevartovsk court.
The press service of the supervisory authority told a Vremya Novostey correspondent that the criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 282-2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organizing the activities of an extremist organization) was initiated on December 28, 2004. It was possible to contact the Nizhnevartovsk representative of the organization thanks to the investigation of another case.
Last year, nine people considered the backbone of the Tyumen representative office of Hizb-ut-Tahrir were detained in Tyumen and Tobolsk. The investigation believes that they, sharing the task of eliminating non-Islamic governments and establishing Islamic rule on a global scale, decided to organize the activities of Hizb-ut-Tahrir in the Tyumen region. The nine Tyumen residents are also accused of deceiving their compatriots, whom they lured into their ranks under the pretext of jointly studying the tenets of Islam. During searches in the apartments of the suspects, religious Islamic literature was found, as well as documents that made it possible to initiate a separate criminal case against the Nizhnevartovsk representative of the organization, Jalolkhon Khodzhiev.
According to the preliminary version, Mr. Khodzhiev, knowing about the ban on the activities of Hizb-ut-Tahrir on the territory of the Russian Federation, kept the literature it published at home and distributed it among city residents. During the investigation, this information was confirmed. Investigators also managed to find out that Jalolkhon Khodzhiev was an activist of an extremist organization, representing its interests in Nizhnevartovsk. The date of consideration in court of the criminal case initiated against Khodzhiev is still unknown.
The next people to come into the investigators' sphere of interest were members of the Chelyabinsk branch. Simultaneously with the transfer of the case against Khodzhiev to court, the Chelyabinsk prosecutor’s office announced the extension of the investigation into the criminal case against the Chelyabinsk Hizb-ut-Tahrir cell. It was initiated on March 15 of this year, also under Part 2 of Art. 282-2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The prosecutor's office explains the extension of the investigation due to the lack of suspects - for two months, investigators were unable to detain a single representative of the cell. The basis for initiating the case was the discovery of a warehouse of subversive ideological literature in one of the apartments in the city. Investigative measures carried out in the homes of possible members of the organization helped to discover many documents related to the extremist organization, but did not allow anyone to be brought to justice.
