Metropolitan Cyril criticizes the modern human rights movement in Russia

The head of the department of external church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kirill (Gundyaev), criticized the modern human rights movement in Russia.

“Today, the main challenge for believers is moral relativism (double standards), which is planted in society under the guise of protecting human rights,” the Interfax agency quotes the words of the Metropolitan, who he said today in Moscow at a meeting of the “round table” on issues of the rights and merits of the human person.

Attempts by the Church to limit human rights in cases where they contradict public morality, according to Metropolitan Cyril, meet a sharp criticism from radical adherents of liberal teaching.

As an example, he cited loyalty to sectarian societies. "Who and when would interrupt the bunch of sectarians aimed at inciting inter -religious enmity?" - Metropolitan Cyril asked a question.

Nevertheless, he believes, there is a variant of reconciliation of a Christian and liberal understanding of the idea of ​​human rights, and this option is a person’s responsibility for his actions. “In addition to the idea of ​​moral responsibility, there is no other idea that could transfer the bridge between a religious look and liberal movements,” Metropolitan Cyril emphasized.
