In Iraq, 5 US citizens suspected of partisan activities were arrested

American troops hold 5 US citizens in Iraq, previously detained on suspicion of participating in a partisan war, ITAR-TASS reports.

This was announced on Wednesday by the official representative of the US Department of Defense Brian Whitman.

According to him, the arrested were captured one by one and, according to the Pentagon currently available, were not interconnected. Three of the detainees are Americans of Iraqi descent, the fourth in nationality Iranian, the fifth is a Jordanian. These faces were seized in April, May and June.

Whitman refused to disclose the names of the arrested, specify the accusations made to them and explain what they are reinforced.

However, relatives and American law enforcement agencies recognized in a native of Iran Sayirus Kara, a film producer and a former sailor.

The American Union of Civil Freedoms said that Kar was detained illegally and on Wednesday sued the authorities to achieve his liberation.

The representative of the American military department said that one of the detainees is a US citizen of Iranian origin - at the time of arrest he transported several dozen hourly mechanisms that are used in washing machines in his car, but can be used in the manufacture of homemade explosive devices.

Presumably, one of the detainees knew plans to prepare one of the attacks, and the other, perhaps, himself participated in the abduction. The third was engaged in "suspicious activities", Whitman said, refusing to report the details.

The detainees are in one of their three American prisons in Iraq, the Washington Post said.

Whitman also said that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross have already visited all five detainees, adding that US citizens are contained in accordance with the laws in force under armed conflict.

Washington Post notes that a similar situation with US citizens occurred in Afghanistan in 2001.

Then two Taliban, John Walker Lind and Yaser Ezam Hamdi, having American passports were detained.

In October 2002, Lind pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
