The American human rights organization Afghanistan Justice Project has published a report on human rights violations during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the period of Taliban rule and the American occupation of the country, reports the Los Angeles Times .

In preparing the report, human rights activists from a group funded by George Soros's Open Society Institute interviewed several thousand people in Afghanistan. These surveys continued for three years, beginning in 2001.

Much of the report focuses on human rights abuses by Soviet troops and the Taliban, but the report notes that the Americans who occupied the country in 2003 often did the same things as their predecessors.

According to the data published in the report, Soviet soldiers chained prisoners to the floor, kept them in secret places, not allowing them to meet with relatives, refused medical and legal assistance, and kept them in cold rooms for long periods of time.

In exactly the same way, according to human rights activists, the Americans often treat Afghan prisoners now, and, according to human rights activists, the occupiers have also adopted the tactics of the Taliban, who came to power after the withdrawal of Soviet troops.

According to the Afghanistan Justice Project, US military leaders believe that the Taliban, which continues to operate in Afghanistan, is based not abroad, but inside the country, and that such methods of treating prisoners are justified.

The report also contains information about torture committed by US allies in the anti-terrorist coalition, as well as by the new Afghan authorities. According to human rights activists, many of those who collaborated with the Afghan government during the “Soviet” era are now working with the government of Hamid Karzai, and some of them themselves participated in torture and other crimes.

The report names Karzai's adviser Abdul Rasul Sayaf, Energy Minister Ismail Khan, Vice President Karim Khalili, and Chief of the General Staff Abdul Rashid Dostum. All of them, according to human rights activists, were related to human rights violations.

Let us recall that the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch recently made similar accusations against the top leadership of Afghanistan. She said they were involved in war crimes during the Afghan civil war. Human rights activists are demanding that President Hamid Karzai establish a tribunal and bring those responsible to justice.
