Estonian Interior Minister Kalle Laanet, as a result of a disciplinary inquiry, decided not to grant the resignation of Police Director General Robert Antropov. Antropov will remain in his post, but will be deprived of an additional salary of 9,500 crowns, Delfi reports .

According to Laanet, the completed disciplinary investigation against Antropov showed that the behavior of the general director, who used official vehicles, did not violate the current rules.

As for the reduction in payments, the relevant resolution will state that the head of police will not see these 9,500 crowns for at least six months. The passage of this period will also not mean automatic restoration of the previous salary. In addition, Antropov lost his vacation, which was supposed to begin on Monday.

As the minister explained, the salary reduction was caused by the fact that although Antropov did not violate the law, he “seriously hurt the people’s sense of justice.” Laanet did not accept Antropov’s resignation for the reason that the constant change of leaders interferes with the work of the police department. However, the minister emphasized that if anything similar happens to Antropov, he will be fired.

In the future, the police department should develop a precise procedure for the use of official cars, for example, a procedure for compensating for their use.

The disciplinary inquiry did not investigate rumors that Antropov had previously used a company car for personal purposes, Laanet said.

Let us recall that Laanet began an investigation after Estonian journalists published information that Robert Antropov used a BMW X5 SUV purchased by the security police to protect guests of the country and the driver to take his parents to Saaremaa.

On Friday, the police chief submitted his resignation, arguing that he had not violated any legal act. “I don’t want to allow what has been said in the press in recent days to spread to my team or the reputation of the police as a whole,” Antropov said on Friday.

According to the law, police officials can impose disciplinary punishment in the form of a reprimand, a reduction in salary by 10-15 percent for up to three months, or dismissal.
