Joint exercises of the Airborne Forces of the two countries have begun in Russia and Germany, RIA Novosti reports . The exercises will take place in the German city of Zweibrücken and near Pskov.

A platoon of Russian paratroopers from the 76th Pskov Airborne Division arrived in Germany. This unit will conduct training together with the Bundeswehr airborne battalion - military personnel will land from an airplane on a certain area of the terrain.

Then the paratroopers will practice evacuating the population from a certain area in which, according to the scenario, combat operations will take place or a natural disaster will occur. “The main goal of the exercise is to test the interaction of airborne troops during anti-terrorism and rescue operations,” a representative of the German Ministry of Defense told the agency in an interview.

During the exercises, Russian paratroopers will also become familiar with the living conditions and military training of their German colleagues. The training and joint exercises will take place as part of the program of interoperability of the Armed Forces of the two countries.

Let us recall that, as Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at the NATO summit in early July, next year Russia and NATO plan to hold 40-45 events as part of a program to increase the level of interoperability of troops. Among the planned activities are exercises, training of control bodies, increasing the compatibility of communications and information exchange.
