Wortmann is preparing a springboard for Scolari at Dynamo
The Premier League has a new foreign coach. Yesterday the long-awaited appointment of Brazilian Ivo Adais Wortmann to the post of head coach of the capital's Dynamo took place. The contract with Wortmann was signed for a year. According to Brazilian media, the salary of the Brazilian coach at Dynamo will be about a million dollars. Yesterday, the new coach, as well as his assistants coach Alvaro Peixoto, physical training coach Rodrigo Poletto and goalkeeping coach Ademir Sangoy were introduced to the team. It was announced that Andrei Kobelev, who has been acting head coach in recent months, remains with the team. In the coming days, Wortmann will hold conversations with Kobelev and with all the team players, and on Sunday he will lead the team to the match with Torpedo.
Wortmann will become Dynamo's fifth coach in the last season and a half. Negotiations with the Brazilian specialist began in May, after the resignation of Oleg Romantsev. Wortmann himself is only known for the fact that over the 23 years of his professional coaching career he managed to work with 21 teams, and over the past five years he has changed eight Brazilian clubs. But there is one circumstance that explains this appointment: Wortmann’s patronage was the famous coach Luiz Felipe Scolari. It was this fact that gave reason to assume that Scolari, who is currently working with the Portuguese national team, will become Dynamo’s next coach. Scolari's contract with the European vice-champions expires next summer, and according to some reports, there is already some kind of preliminary agreement, according to which the eminent specialist will move to Moscow in a year.
If this is really the case, then the tenacity with which the current owner of Dynamo Alexey Fedorychev buys players from the Portuguese championship becomes clear. Following Derlei, Danny, Ciceru, Jorge Ribeiro, Maniche, Costinha, Seitaridis, Nigerian defender Joseph Enakarchir from Sporting, who signed a five-year contract with the Russian club, should soon join Dynamo. It is possible that the latest purchases were agreed upon with Scolari, and his colleague and longtime acquaintance Wortmann should conduct reconnaissance in Russia and monitor the process of adaptation of the “Portuguese”. However, with the arrival of the Brazilian, Fedorychev can expand the geography of purchases - the new head coach, in addition to Portuguese, speaks Spanish, English and German. The work, according to the management, does not stop - in the near future a world-famous forward should appear at Dynamo. According to some information, Fedorychev is ready to spend about $20 million on a new player.
Wortmann's mission will begin with the match "Torpedo" - "Dynamo". That is, in his very first game, the Brazilian must evaluate “one of the greatest evils of Russian football” - the artificial turf at Luzhniki. But at the same time, Wortmann can immediately go down in the history of Dynamo football - since 1982, the “blue and white” have not been able to win at the main stadium of the country (the victory in the Russian Cup in 1995 does not count - then Dynamo won only on penalties).
It is possible that not only the head coach, but also the club management may change at Dynamo in the near future. The three-year contract of the club's general director, Yuri Zavarzin, who is now also the president of the Russian Premier League, expires in mid-August. So far, Fedorychev and Zavarzin have avoided questions about the possibility of extending the agreement. But if Yuri Zavarzin has to leave Dynamo, then it is possible that he will lose the post of president of the Russian Premier League. According to the charter of this organization, only one of the club leaders can head it.
