On July 28, the military prosecutor of the Joint Group of Forces in the North Caucasus, Maxim Toporikov, told reporters that the commander of the Vostok battalion unit was brought to criminal responsibility in the case of the events in the Chechen village of Borozdinovskaya, but his name was not disclosed in the interests of the investigation. According to Toporikov, it appeared that the Vostok branch, which was carrying out a reconnaissance and ambush mission in the Shelkovsky district, having heard about the murder of the father of one of his colleagues, went AWOL to the funeral. And the commander of this unit is charged with abuse of authority.
The media on the same day "declassified" the name that the military prosecutor's office did not want to name. The journalists had no doubt that the charge had been brought against the commander of Vostok intelligence, Major Khamzat Gairbekov. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the name of Khamzat Boroda was heard many times in connection with the cleansing in Borozdinovskaya from the refugees themselves. Khamzat is known by sight in the village, he often comes here, he is friends with the head of the local administration. It is even rumored that he allegedly acts as an intermediary in the negotiations for the release for the ransom of periodically kidnapped people. And besides, Khamzat Gairbekov is also the head of the branch of the United Russia party in the Shelkovsky district. Among the refugees from Borozdinovskaya there were even those who during the Duma elections worked as an agitator in the headquarters of Gairbekov. It was this man, according to the victims, who led the cleansing: on June 4, he was without a mask. True, later, after the refugees returned to Chechnya, the number of people ready to personally identify the commander of the Vostok intelligence service was reduced to zero. And those who had already given evidence refused them.
But an official was found who confirmed that it was Khamzat Gairbekov, the commander of Vostok intelligence, who had been detained by the military prosecutor's office. This was announced by the investigator of the prosecutor's office of the United Group of Forces (OGV) Vladimir Karpitsky.
Nevertheless, on August 2, the military prosecutor's office of the UGA denied that Khamzat Gairbekov had been detained. Yes, the commander of one of the divisions of Yamadayev's battalion was detained, but this is not Major Gairbekov, the military prosecutor's office claims. And who exactly was detained is the secret of the investigation.
Contradictions in statements, mutually exclusive statements from the same sources are characteristic of everything that concerns Borozdinovskaya, not only for the military prosecutor's office, but for all authorities. The promoted case has turned into a subject of bargaining - everyone, except for the victims, is looking for their own benefit in it.
Chechnya's Deputy Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov took advantage of the first situation: there is talk of his desire to jeopardize the influential "Vostok", which enjoys a special favor with the Russian Defense Ministry.
As for the refugees from Borozdinovskaya, most of them decided to arrange their own lives on their own. About 250 people remained in the camp by Wednesday. The rest returned to Borozdinovskaya with the hope of selling the house, and someone has already bought land in Dagestan and started building. And it may well happen that while the investigation into the case of the cleansing of Borozdinovskaya drags on, no one will remain in the village at all. And there is no judgment.
