Alexander Sergeev died

Today, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs says goodbye to Alexander Nikolaevich Sergeev, a man who during his lifetime became, without exaggeration, a legend of the police and the entire law enforcement system in general, and not only in Russia. He devoted 39 years of his life to the fight against crime, starting in 1966 from a simple investigator and criminal investigation officer to the first deputy chairman of the State Committee for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (SCPN, which was later transformed into an independent federal service). Two years ago, Lieutenant General Alexander Sergeev resigned, but until the last moment, despite a fatal illness, he remained in service, holding the position of Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The main work of Alexander Sergeev’s life was the fight against one of the most terrible ills of modern society - the spread of drugs and the drug business. For many years he remained one of the main developers of almost all state policy in this area. Through the efforts of Alexander Sergeev, in 1991, for the first time in Russian history, a specialized independent unit was created in the Ministry of Internal Affairs - the Department for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking (UBNON), of which he was the permanent leader for 12 years. Over this relatively short period, the anti-drug service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has become a full member of not only the Russian, but also the entire international law enforcement community, having earned recognition from the intelligence services of the leading countries of the world. Under the leadership of Alexander Sergeev, UBNON (later the department was transformed into the main department, and in 2002 into the State Committee for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking under the Ministry of Internal Affairs) conducted hundreds of successful operations against the world's largest drug gangs. At the same time, the merits of Alexander Sergeev himself were awarded awards not only from Russia, but from many other countries of the world. In addition to leading the actual operational fight against drug crime, it was Alexander Sergeev who was the main initiator of the adoption and developer of federal anti-drug programs, one of the coordinators of efforts on this front of all other Russian departments, including civilian ones. For many years he organized the now traditional all-Russian operational and preventive operations “Mak”, “Channel”, “Doping”. At the same time, he managed to engage in scientific and pedagogical work, preparing more than a hundred scientific and methodological publications, and was the initiator of the creation, based on the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, of the International Interdepartmental Center for the Training of Anti-Drug Specialists, which is now recognized as one of the best in the world. At the same time, Alexander Sergeev was one of the main experts representing Russia in the global anti-drug community, actively participating in the work of the relevant units of the UN and other international organizations. Among Russian and international colleagues, Alexander Nikolaevich, thanks to his highest professionalism, encyclopedic knowledge and experience, enjoyed unquestioned authority, being considered one of the best specialists on such a complex and multifaceted problem as drug trafficking. For employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Sergeev has always remained an example of personal decency, honesty and service to the law. Alexander Nikolaevich died on the night of August 3. On this morning, a minute of silence was announced in the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Alexander Nikolaevich Sergeev will be buried today at the Troekurovskoye cemetery in Moscow. Funeral ceremonies will take place at 11.00 in the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Zhitnaya Street, 16.
