"I started a hunger strike late at night on Friday, on August 19, after I became aware of the transfer of my friend Platon Lebedev to a punishment cell," the statement reported by Khodorkovsky through a lawyer and published on his website. The former head of the Yukos explained that he had not written any statements to the pre -trial detention center, because I was sure that the decision to transfer Lebedev to a punishment cell was made "in a completely different place."

Meanwhile, in a message widespread by the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the City of Moscow, it is argued that on August 23, the prisoner Khodorkovsky "purchased in the store of the investigative insulator number 1 of food in the amount of 4200 rubles." This is reported by Interfax.

Earlier, the director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Yuri Kalinin said that the insulator administration does not have information about the beginning of the hunger strike Khodorkovsky.

Khodorkovsky’s lawyer Yuri Schmidt in an interview with Pranam.ru said that Kalinin was lying. "Unfortunately, we have such positions that make people lie. Kalinin slandered in his statements repeatedly," Schmidt said. According to him, Khodorkovsky sits in a large cell, and it is impossible to hide the fact of a hunger strike from cellmates. Even if he wants to deceive someone, then this will immediately know.
