| Alexander Sokolov and Mikhail Shvydkoy made peace On Monday, a joint statement appeared on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Mass Communications, signed by Minister Alexander Sokolov and the head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography, Mikhail Shvydkiy, which stated that the conflict between them had been resolved: “Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation A.S. Sokolov once again clarified that he did not accuse specific officials of the former ministry and the current Agency for Culture and Cinematography and did not present specific claims to them, but expressed a general value judgment.”
Apparently, Mikhail Shvydkoy decided that this could be considered an apology - because after a personal meeting on Friday, September 2, both leaders came to a common opinion: “We should not make mutual claims and are obliged to resolve problematic issues in direct working contact.” In this regard, “the Minister of Culture and Mass Communications and the head of Roskultura decided to end the legal dispute. The minister explained that there are no claims against the former ministry and the current agency in this case. The head of the agency also dropped the claims against the minister and withdrew the lawsuit.”
So while the public was worried about the court hearing scheduled for Monday, the parties, it turns out, had already reached an agreement. Passions boiled over for several months, fresh rumors appeared about the impending removal of one or both parties to the conflict, but it all ended in a bad peace, about which the popular proverb says that it is still better than a good quarrel.
Now, most likely, no personnel changes will occur either in the ministry or in the agency. Because, having exchanged mutual insults and aroused a discussion in society about the right to unsubstantiated accusations and the possibility of any evidence, the parties came to “a reasonable decision” that served “the benefit of the common cause.”
The loudest personal conflict between officials in the modern history of Russia smoothly turned into an internal departmental proceeding - it is no coincidence that the text of the joint statement does not include the names of the participants in the conflict, but their positions - corporate ethics won.
