The President of Ukraine promises to deprive Kuchma of immunity if he is involved in the murder of Gongadze

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko said that the former head of the state Leonid Kuchma would not use immunity if he "leads an investigation into the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze."

“It won’t use it. This is obvious,” Yushchenko said in an interview with the Air Force , answering the question of whether Kuchma would be brought to Kuchma if he was investigating the murder of a journalist, or the ex -president will enjoy immunity.

Speaking about the investigation of the case of the murder of a journalist, he noted that "four years had no prospect." “When I became the president, the Gongadze folder was empty, there was nothing there. We had to start from scratch. We had to find those people who could testify. I provided great guarantees to these people, I provided their safety through the relevant authorities. We took out their relatives so that these people simply did not kill. So we got the first testimony. We went to the one who killed Gonadze,” he said.

The head of state emphasized that it is necessary to find the organizer and customer of the murder. "These are questions no less complicated than the first part of the investigation. We have already given the answer to the first part of the investigation. The investigation was carried out. The killers get acquainted with the case. I am convinced that it will be transferred to the court with other evidence. For an honest court," Yushchenko said.

“I am convinced that we will receive an answer regarding the organizers. And today there is a good process. Only, unfortunately, because of certain actions - including the previous leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine - today we do not have one of the organizers of this murder in Ukraine. But we know where he is. And we will return it to Ukraine with international assistance,” the president said.

On August 8, 2005, the Prosecutor General’s Office officially announced the completion of the investigation in a criminal case on charges of Valery Kostenko, Nikolai Protasov, Alexander Popovich, who was allocated from the criminal case number 60-1241 on the fact of the intentional murder of George Gongadze. From this moment, the parties received the right to familiarize themselves with the case file. Another accused of the murder of a journalist, ex-head of the Department of External Surveillance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexei Pukach, is on the wanted list.

At the same time, customers of the murder have not yet been installed. The widow of the deceased journalist Miroslav claims that the ex-president Leonid Kuchma was the customer of the murder, and the then head of the presidential administration, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Litvin and the ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuri Kravchenko, was involved in his organization.

The head of the Provisional Investigation Commission of the Parliament to investigate resonant cases, Grigory Omelchenko, said that Litvin was an instigator to commit a crime against Gongadze.
