Mel Gibson, the director of the film "Passion of Christ", announced his intention to implement a new project called "Apocalypto": this time we are talking about the bloody rituals of Mayan civilization, Interfax reports.
The film will be shot in the ancient dialect "Yucatk". Speaking about the name of the film, the director explained that in Greek, it means "a new beginning."
“I hope that, paying attention to this civilization, we can pay eyes to ourselves. Many secrets are still connected with Mayan’s culture, but for me this culture is rather the scenery for an adventure film,” said Gibson at a press conference in the Mexican city of Veracrurus, where the Spanish navigator Ernando Cortes landed in the 16th century, which conquered the Mayan empire.
The authorities hope that the shooting of the film, which is planned in mid -November, will cause an additional influx of tourists, which will bring the country more than $ 10 million, the weekly “The Observer” writes.
