| The causes and culprits of the mass poisoning of children in Sochi have been named Yesterday, at a meeting of the emergency sanitary and epidemiological commission of the Sochi administration, it was officially announced that the outbreak of acute intestinal infection among participants in the festival “In the World of Arts” was caused by a dysentery pathogen. Two cooks and a loader infected children and adults.
The festival took place from October 30 to November 5 in the Adler district of Sochi, in the Adlerkurort sanatorium and resort association. On the evening of November 5, people began to contact doctors with complaints of high fever, abdominal pain and vomiting. Of the 638 festival participants, 226 were hospitalized, including 191 children. 49 people fell ill with dysentery, including 47 children. On Thursday morning, only two children and one adult remained in hospitals. The rest of the festival participants were declared clinically healthy and were sent home on charter flights during the day. These flights were paid for by the Sochi administration and Adlerkurort.
Specialists of the Krasnodar territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor established that the causative agents of dysentery were in the catering unit of the Coral building of the Adlerkurort association, where young artists and the adults accompanying them ate, almost everywhere - in finished products, on kitchen equipment and utensils. And the carriers of the infection turned out to be two catering department cooks and a loader, who, as noted in the report of Rospotrebnadzor specialists, did not follow the rules of personal hygiene.
The emergency in Sochi became the reason for the urgent organization of inspections of all food factories of children's educational and health institutions in the Russian south. The chief epidemiologist of the Russian Ministry of Health in the Southern Federal District, Vladimir Ryzhkov, announced this the day before. And comments have already appeared in the Sochi press claiming that what happened in Adler is not an accident at all, since public catering facilities in Sochi are formally controlled. Sanitary books, which all employees of canteens, cafes and restaurants are required to have, are simply purchased for money: few people go to doctors and get tested; a book is issued “without looking” for only 2 thousand rubles.
This is the second case of infection of children at Adlerkurort: in the summer of 2004, almost 50 children who were vacationing in a camp set up in one of the association’s buildings also fell ill with dysentery because of one cook. Then the management of the health resort got off with what is called a slight fright. Now the prosecutor's office of the Adler district of Sochi continues to investigate the criminal case initiated on the basis of mass infection of people under Art. 236 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules), and, as it turns out, Adlerkurort did not have the right to hold the festival at all. The health resort received permission from Rospotrebnadzor to operate in the summer, but not in the fall. It turns out that the festival “In the World of Arts,” which took place during the autumn school holidays at Adlerkurort for the fifth time, was, as it were, illegal. By the way, according to the head of the press service of the Krasnodar territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor, Irina Voronkova, it has not yet been clarified which of the festival organizers, among whom are the Bulgarian trade mission, the Russian-Bulgarian Friendship Society, and the famous pop artist Bedros Kirkorov, will compensate the administration Sochi there are large financial costs for treating infected children and sending them home.
