The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) consider the claims of American senators to be unreasonable in connection with the conditions for serving the sentence of ex-heads of the NK Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Plato Lebedev.
"Russia is a sovereign state. We live in Russia, not in America. We can listen to claims against the conditions for the content of convicts of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev only from Russian parliamentarians," Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Federal Penitentiary Service Yuri Kalinin told Interfax.
Thus, he commented on the resolution of US senators who criticized the actions of the Russian authorities against convicts of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev.
“I think that the American parliamentarians have problems that should be solved in their country,” Kalinin said. “At least numerous criticisms of Europe and the international community in connection with the content of prisoners at the military base in Guantanamo and the existence of the death penalty.”
Responding to the complaints of Khodorkovsky’s lawyers about the actions of the colony administration personnel in the Chita region, which contains the ex-head of the Yukos, the director of the FSIN said: "All the rights of the convicted Khodorkovsky are respected. The colony officers are strictly under the law."
Recall that the US Senate announced the need to transfer Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Plato Lebedev to other places of conclusion. The corresponding requirement is contained in the Senate resolution , the authors of which are the republican Senator John McCain, as well as Democrats Senate Joseph Biden and Barak Saint Obama.
The resolution was unanimously adopted by the US Senate at a meeting on Friday. This document does not require George Bush signature and is not compulsory, he demonstrates the mood of American legislators.
"Khodorkovsky and Lebedev should be transferred to the places of conclusion that meet the norms and practice of Russian laws," the document says.
It notes that Khodorkovsky is serving a sentence in the Chita region, and Lebedev - in the Yamalo -Nenets District, although in accordance with Article 73 of the HEC of the Russian Federation ", with the exception of extraordinary circumstances," Russian convicts must serve the sentence in those regions "where they live or were convicted."
