A US special forces soldier must be harmoniously developed culturally and speak foreign languages. These points are key factors for the operative of the future who must participate in the global war on terrorism. This conclusion was presented by US Navy Captain, Commander of the 1st Naval Special Forces Group (SEALs), Sean Pibas, the US Department of Defense information service reports.

Deputy Commander of the 7th US Special Forces Group (Green Berets), Colonel Edward Reeder, agreed with the captain. He noted that in addition to the factors pointed out by Pibas, the special forces soldier of the future must be impeccably trained in special, tactical and technical terms.

"The Special Forces operative must be an expert in unconventional warfare. Prepared for physical and mental challenges, he must understand the conditions and culture of the region in which he works," Reeder said.

As stated by Brigadier General Denis Hedzlik, Chief of the US Marine Corps Special Operations Command , "Special Forces must understand that when they are sent on a mission in another country, some unintentional actions caused by a lack of understanding of the local culture can lead to disastrous results. Because of such undesirable actions, the image of the United States in the eyes of citizens of another country may fade."

Also, according to him, one of the most important problems in providing special forces is communications. "This is the area where we suffer the most from failure," Hedzlik said. In his opinion, with the constant development of computers, even the most modern communications systems for special forces are quickly becoming obsolete.

The military has also raised questions about the compatibility of different communications systems, which is critical in some special operations.

The WEST 2006 conference, to determine ways to develop US national security, at which representatives of various branches of the US military expressed their proposals, was held from January 10 to 12 in San Diego.
