
Russia sends its observers to the parliamentary elections to the upcoming Palestinian Autonomy on January 25, said the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"We calculate that according to the results of these elections, the Legislative Assembly will be formed, which can become the responsible partner of the Palestinian leader of Mahmoud Abbas in his efforts to consolidate the company and implement the provisions of the Road Medical Plan, addressed to the Palestinians," Lavrov said on Tuesday at a press conference in Moscow.
He emphasized that the main task of the Palestinian side as part of the implementation of the "road map" is the curbing of violence.
"For this, the Palestinians need well -equipped security forces, and Russia helps them in the formation of such forces," the minister said. Lavrov also expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
“This is a courageous person who went to very serious decisions and convinced most of the Israeli society of the need to move along the path of implementation of the“ road map, ”Lavrov emphasized.
He recalled that thanks to the Sharon, Israel's departure from the Gaza sector and part of the western bank of the Jordan River became possible.
"We record this most important event in the asset of Israelis, and Palestinians, and other states that actively contributed to this, first of all, Egypt and Jordan, and, of course, to the asset of the entire world community," Lavrov said.
