It is interesting that, unlike Russian academics, while recognizing the film as the best, they also consider the work of its director successful.
As for the acting works, they may not be recognized as successful even in the most liked films. There are five actresses of very different roles nominated for best actress: Keira Knightley played a British young lady in the melodrama “Pride and Prejudice”, English actress Judi Dench was noted for her role as an eccentric widow who bought herself a theater (“Mrs. Henderson Presents”), Reese Witherspoon as and her partner Joaquin Phoenix, liked academics in the film “Walk the Line”, Charlize Theron this time appeared in her natural sexuality in “North Country”, and Golden Globe winner Felicity Huffman, who played a man who changed gender in the film “Transamerica” "has, perhaps, the best chance, since in Hollywood these days they love it when actresses do their best to spoil their appearance.

The Russian “Italian” was not included in the nomination, but, as our newspaper learned, it was unlikely that it was seen at all, since the documents for its presentation were sent very late, and copies were not sent on time. Whether the story of an orphanage boy whom prosperous Italians want to adopt, while he prefers searching for his own mother to a prosperous life, would touch the hearts of academics is unknown. Another thing is known: promoting a film for an Oscar is an expensive and troublesome pleasure, there was no one to do this at Lenfilm, and there was no one at the Russian Academy, if such a thing exists.
