| Iran is not alone in its nuclear ambitions
Today, Iran's nuclear developments are in the spotlight of the whole world, but it should be taken into account that the long-term activities of the IAEA did not prevent the creation of atomic weapons in Israel, India, Pakistan, South Africa and North Korea. A number of other countries, ignoring the IAEA, have moved or are moving in this dangerous direction: Brazil, Algeria, Indonesia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Syria. These states may be conducting research that goes beyond the development of nuclear energy, but at the moment they do not have the scientific, technical and material resources to create real nuclear weapons.
Israel
Israel does not formally admit that it has nuclear weapons, but does not deny the possibility of launching a retaliatory “strike” using weapons of mass destruction. Numerous evidence, including the testimony of Israeli physicist Mordechai Vanunu, considered in Israel a traitor to state interests, almost irrefutably indicates that Israel has had nuclear weapons since the early 1980s. Nuclear development was carried out in the strictest secrecy in the Negev Desert.
According to various estimates, the number of warheads can reach 50-200 units. Israel also has means of delivering nuclear warheads - modern combat aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons, as well as tactical missiles of its own production, Jericho-1 (range 660 km) and Jericho-2 (range 1.5 thousand km). In addition, Israel has the Shavit rocket, which was originally designed to launch satellites into space orbit, and, according to American experts, is capable of delivering a nuclear warhead weighing up to 500 kg to a distance of up to 7,800 km.
Israel's nuclear program began in 1956 in cooperation with France. France helped Israel build a secret nuclear reactor in Dimona. In September 1979, Israel successfully tested a tactical nuclear charge in the South Atlantic (according to some sources, this was the third test). Israel has its own missile defense system, successfully tested in 1997. The vast majority of Israeli nuclear facilities have not been inspected by the IAEA.
India
India joined the “nuclear club” in 1998, when it conducted a series of nuclear tests and officially declared the presence of atomic weapons. However, according to some sources, India tested its first nuclear explosive device back in 1974. The exact number of nuclear charges is unknown. Experts give different numbers - from 10 to 75. India's military nuclear program started in the early 70s (the first civilian reactor appeared two decades earlier); in parallel, the development of missile systems and the space program was carried out.
To date, India, with the support of the USSR (and later Russia), has created its own Prithvi (range up to 250 km) and Agni (up to 1.5 thousand km) missiles. In addition, India has combat aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Since 1984, it has been developing its own long-range ballistic and cruise missiles, and is also conducting research into the creation of submarine-launched ballistic missiles. With Russian support, India is also developing its own missile defense system. There are uranium deposits in India. Almost all of India's nuclear facilities have not been inspected by the IAEA.
