At the Olympics in Turin, a real “uniform boom” began. This time the German team had problems with equipment. If athletes from Russia hastily cover up extra sponsor logos with adhesive plaster, then Olympians from Germany will have to change their headgear altogether.
The reason for the urgent sewing of new caps was that the sponsor of the German Olympic team mixed up the order of the colors of the country's national flag, namely yellow with red. And throughout the first week, the Germans performed as if under the tricolor of Belgium, which also contains black, red and yellow. Sponsor company official Oliver Bruggen has already apologized. He regrets the production error that caused the misunderstanding. According to him, the correct uniform will be delivered to the German Olympians in the near future.
Maslennikov's excellent jump turned out to be unnecessary
The combined team competitions have been postponed until today. The reason for this was the strong wind, because of which, after the first round of ski jumping, they decided to postpone the tournament. As a result, all the results shown by the athletes yesterday in the first attempt were canceled. Today, weather permitting, both jump series and the 4x5 km cross-country ski race will take place.
The most offensive thing for the Russian team, for which Dmitry Matveev, Ivan Fesenko, Anton Kamenev and Sergei Maslennikov play, is that according to the results of the already canceled jumping session, it took third place, behind only the Germans and Austrians. Team leader Maslennikov achieved the best result, landing at 136.5 m. However, according to him, if we talk about real chances, the Russian quartet is unlikely to rise above fifth or sixth place. Kostelic missed the downhill
Three-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion Croatian alpine skier Janica Kostelic did not start in the downhill in Turin. As the athlete's press attaché said, in recent days Kostelic has been worried about a rapid heartbeat, which is why her performance in the combination is in question.
Since 1999, Kostelic has been plagued by injuries. First, she injured a rib on the slalom course in Sestriere, then during training before the World Cup in St. Moritz, Switzerland, she tore ligaments in her left knee. Because of this, she was operated on three times. In 2003, again in St. Moritz, she injured her shoulder. In June of the same year, she underwent surgery on her right knee. And two years ago I went under the surgeon’s knife again, this time for the thyroid gland. One can only marvel at the courage of the 23-year-old girl, who managed to win all the gold at the Salt Lake City Olympics four years ago. In Kostelic's absence, Michaela Dorfmeister from Austria became the Olympic champion in this discipline with a score of 1:56.49. Russian Olesya Alieva finished 33rd. Olga ERMOLINA
