| In Chelyabinsk they began to pass sentences on the “grandfathers” from the tank school On Monday, the Chelyabinsk Military Garrison Court began considering a whole series of criminal cases of hazing, initiated by the military prosecutor's office as part of the investigation into the incident involving conscript Andrei Sychev, which thundered throughout the country.
On New Year's holidays, in the support company of the Chelyabinsk Tank School, old-timers began beating new recruits. Sychev suffered the most, and was subsequently hospitalized. The case was made public only after the intervention of the chief military prosecutor of Russia, Alexander Savenkov. Until this moment, the school’s management denied information about the emergency or accused Sychev himself of injuring himself in order to evade military service. But after Mr. Savenkov’s press conference, the situation changed. A special group from the Ministry of Defense and a separate detachment of investigators from the Main Military Prosecutor's Office arrived in Chelyabinsk. Reconstructing the events of November and December minute by minute, prosecutors discovered information to initiate almost one and a half dozen new criminal cases.
On Monday, the court considered the first of them. It concerns the beating of Private Maxim Trubin at the school. According to the investigation, on December 10, 2005, the young man was caught by Sergeant Ivan Chernykh, who was the company duty officer, with a cigarette in the toilet. This behavior is considered disruptive. Chernykh told the investigation that he punished the attacker with three blows to the face, and even then he used force for the first time in his life. Doctors found that Trubin had a broken nose and a blunt closed head injury. The military prosecutor's office determined the actions of the company duty officer as falling under Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (exceeding official powers with the use of violence) and demanded that the court punish Ivan Chernykh with four years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
But the leadership of the school stood up for the Cherny fighter - reading the positive characteristics of the accused took the court half an hour. The defense also pointed to Chernykh's complete repentance and his admission of guilt. Maxim Trubin also almost refused the accusations. According to him, he was forced to write a statement by the fear of being prosecuted for concealment. As a result, the court sentenced Ivan Chernykh to a suspended sentence of four years with a probationary period of two years. The defendant was also demoted in rank and deprived of the right to hold command positions for a year.
Yesterday, the Chelyabinsk Military Garrison Court announced the verdict of another “grandfather” from the tank school - private Konstantin Sidorenko. He was found guilty of hazing in relation to a private who was younger than him in conscription (Article 335 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). “The defendant kicked the victim several times. When sentencing, the court took into account the defendant’s full admission of guilt and repentance,” the court noted. At the request of the defendant, the case was considered in a special manner - without trial.
The hearing of the next case of hazing at the Chelyabinsk Tank School is scheduled for February 26. “The defendant, a private in the military unit of the school, is also accused of hazing. According to the investigation, he beat up two colleagues younger than him in conscription, and burned the body of one of them with a cigarette,” the court said. The military prosecutor's office told a Vremya Novostey correspondent that five cases involving the Chelyabinsk school, involving about ten victims, have already been submitted to the court.
