The Polish Foreign Ministry was first headed by a woman

President of Poland Lech Kachinsky appointed Anna Fotygu, new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The ceremony of the appointment of the new Polish Foreign Minister took place on Tuesday in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, RIA Novosti reports.

"Fotyga is the best candidate for this post ... and she will be the first woman appointed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Poland," Kacinsky said at the ceremony.

Anna Fotyga was earlier than the deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, and before that she was a deputy of the European Parliament from the ruling law and justice in Poland.

She replaced Stefans Meller, who on April 28 announced his possible resignation from the post of head of the Poland Foreign Ministry. Melller himself told reporters that he was leaving the minister’s post in connection with the reorganization of the government and the entry into the Council of Ministers of two other political parties. In particular, Melller explained that he could not be part of the government if the leader of the Self-Defense party, Andrzej Lepper, will be a member of the cabinet and deputy prime minister.

Last week, President of Poland Lech Kachinsky completed the reorganization of the government, appointing Lepper as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Poland.

Anna Fotyga graduated from the University of Gdansk (Faculty of Foreign Trade). In 1981-1989, she worked with the current president Lech Kachinsky - she led the Bureau for Foreign Affairs of the Professional University "Solidarity". Fotyga was an adviser for international affairs of Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek. For two years she worked as Vice-mayor of Gdansk. In November 2005, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland. Anna Fotyga is married, has two children. He speaks English and Russian.
