| April 5 -- May 5, 2006 “Politicians through the Eyes of the Media,” a joint project of the Vremya Novostei newspaper and the Medialogy company, are ratings of political figures who are most actively discussed in the Russian media.
“Politicians through the Eyes of the Media” are published weekly on Mondays: over the course of a month, you can consistently familiarize yourself with the ratings of governors of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, ministers of the Russian Federation and foreign politicians. The ratings are also published on the publication's website - www.vremya.ru.
The ratings reflect both the total number of publications per month and the level of information favored by the media in relation to each political figure. The Information Favorability Index (IFI) is calculated based on the nature of references to a person (positive, negative, neutral), the significance of the message and the influence of the media.
Ratings of “Medialogy” “Politics through the eyes of the media” are calculated by an automatic online system based on materials from 1,500 of the largest Russian media, including TV, radio, press, news agencies and online publications.

At the top of both ratings are traditionally Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko .
The most noticeable dynamics of the information field was demonstrated by the governor of the Irkutsk region, Alexander Tishanin , who took sixth place in terms of mention and was one of the three most successfully represented governors in the media. The event that stimulated the growth of interest in it was a referendum held in April, in which residents of the Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous Okrug and the Irkutsk region spoke in favor of uniting the territories within a single subject of the federation - the Baikal Territory. The story of Vladimir Putin’s decision to move the oil pipeline route, which was supposed to run along the shore of Lake Baikal, also added several points to Mr. Tishanin’s media ratings. Here the president’s position coincided with the position that the Irkutsk governor initially occupied, and this did not go unnoticed by the majority of journalists.
From an information point of view, the past month can also be called successful for the Governor of the Tomsk Region , Victor Kress. He rose by 37 points in the ranking according to the information favored index due to the interest of the domestic media in the Russian-German summit held in Tomsk.
And the informational occasion that determined the appearance of the head of Koryak Oleg Kozhemyako and the governor of the Kamchatka region Mikhail Mashkovtsev in the top twenty ratings, this time was the disaster that struck Koryak villages in April. Most federal media closely followed how the heads of the affected regions coped with the problems that arose after the devastating earthquake.
