The import of used cars from the USA, the European Union, Japan, China and Ukraine is prohibited into Russia

The Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (FCS) prohibited the import of used cars into the territory of Russia that does not comply with the technical regulations "On the requirements for emissions of automotive equipment produced in the Russian Federation, harmful (polluting) substances."

As stated in the message on the FTS website , which was published on Thursday, this regulations do not correspond to cars produced in the European Union until 1996 inclusive, in the USA - until 1995, in Japan - until 1997.

Also, cars produced in Canada and Korea until 2000, Malaysia - until 2002, China - until 2003, in India - until 2004 inclusive, do not satisfy the requirements of the regulations.

Motor vehicles made in Ukraine do not pass according to the requirements of the technical regulations if they are released until 2005 inclusive (category M), and until 2006 (category N). At the same time, the message does not provide criteria for classifying cars to these categories.

As explained by Interfax in the press service of the FCS, the decision was made on the basis of a letter from the Ministry of Industry of Russia of May 24. “Yesterday they received a letter, from yesterday the decision has been valid,” the representative of the FCS explained.

The ban will be valid until September 1, 2006, the FCS said.
