In Chechnya, the search continued all day yesterday for militants who on Wednesday night fired at a military checkpoint near the village of Eshilkhatoy, Vvedensky district of the republic.
An ensign and three contract soldiers of the 22nd Special Forces Detachment were killed, three more were wounded, and the criminals fled into the mountains. According to the republican prosecutor's office, which opened a criminal case into the attack, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Fire at the checkpoint came from several points. Investigators found that warrant officer Ruslan Nafikov, corporal Andrei Koshalev, privates Murad Ragimov and Robert Khairulin died at the hands of a sniper. A large-scale operation using military helicopters was launched to search for militants. At 5.40 on Wednesday, the scouts managed to stumble upon a group of militants numbering 15 people, who fired at the military. The attackers then fled into the forest. Until the evening, employees of the republic's prosecutor's office, the military prosecutor's office and the FSB directorate for Chechnya worked at the scene of the emergency. Special forces blocked the village of Eshilkhatoy, where the bandits allegedly hid. However, the search yielded no results. The operatives also have no data on losses among militants.
