In 2005, the Americans did not use 421 million days of vacation. These data were obtained as a result of a survey conducted by Harris Interactive by order of the ExpeDia.com portal.
At the same time, American vacation is one of the shortest among industrialized countries in the world. The US average in 2005 received 12 vacation days. A typical resident of Canada rested 21 days. In the UK, the vacation lasted 23 days, in the Netherlands - 25 days, in Germany - 27, in France - 39. At the same time, 31% of Americans, 42% of the Dutch, 24% of Canadians, 21% of the British, 18% of the Germans and 17% of the French did not fully use their vacations. Canadians and Americans gave employers for 3 days, the Dutch - 2 days, the French and Germans - 1 day, and the British - half the day. It is curious that the average American man receives a more vacation for 1-2 days than a woman. However, men are more likely to sit at work, notes Washington Profile .
19% of Americans who did not take their vacation completely did this because they have too much work. Another 16%, being on vacation, constantly maintained contact with their company using a phone or email.
A survey on the same topic conducted by the Monster.com portal showed that 47% of Americans fully use their vacation days, 53% do not use. The main reasons for refusing to relax to the whole coil are the abundance of work (24%of the total number of respondents), fear of the boss (11%) and fear of dismissal (10%).
In turn, the Gallup service established where the Americans dream of going on vacation. As it turned out, most of all the inhabitants of the United States attracts vacation in Hawaii (17%of respondents would prefer it), in Europe (11%), Australia (6%), Italy (5%) and in Alaska (4%). California, Florida, Greece, London, Bagam, Fiji and Ireland gained 2% of the vote. It is curious that men more often than women prefer to spend holidays in the United States, and not outside their borders. In addition, love to relax at home increases with age - the older a person, the less he is inclined to go abroad.
The choice of the vacation site of Americans was seriously influenced by high gas prices. The study by TNS Travel & Transport's TravelSamerica showed that almost 28% of the US residents will less often travel by their car, more than 17% are going to relax near the house, and 9.4% will save on vacation entertainment.
