American ichthyologists have discovered a new previously unknown type of sharks off the coast of South Carolina. The discovered appearance has not yet has its own name. Outwardly, the individuals of the new species are similar to ordinary bronze fish young people, but their genetic set is completely different from other types of scientists known to scientists.
The discovered individuals, which, according to scientists, live only in the area, belong to the so -called hidden or crypto form. That is, with complete external resemblance to individuals of another species, they have a completely non -similar genetic code.
An animals of a new species were discovered by accident during the study conducted by biologists from the University of South Carolina. In their opinion, the species is on the verge of disappearance, so it is necessary to organize measures to protect these sharks as soon as possible, the Air Force reports.
According to a biology professor Dr. Joei Kvatro, who made the discovery, "if in the waters of the southern Carolina of the individuals of this crypto form they bring up their cubs, and females gather here to reproduce offspring, this area should be included in the list of specially protected areas."
Scientists intend to continue their research. To begin with, they are going to install a new type of radio meter on sharks in order to find out the migration tracks of these fish. Biologists believe that the main habitat of these sharks is the coastal waters of South Carolina, but adults can swim into the regions of Florida and North Carolina.
According to scientists, the discovery of a new type of sharks is an extraordinary phenomenon. To date, only 454 species of these fish have been proven.
