In the attic of the pensioner’s house, the first English phenomenon was discovered, shot 111 years ago

The first English film film was accidentally discovered in the attic of the house of the 79-year-old pensioner Frank Williams in the town of Ridich in Western England. The film is called the "arrest of the pickpocket" and it was shot in April 1895 by the famous director Bert Akres.

This is the first picture in the world with a criminal plot. The film lasts only 50 seconds. For decades, the picture was considered lost forever. However, one of the copies lay in the attic in the old package for 60 years and was discovered by a relative of Williams, ITAR-TASS reports.

The restoration of the picture has already been completed, and its second premiere will be held at the festival of silent films, which will be held in Venice in October.

Simultaneously with the "arrest of the pickpocket" there were 13 more tapes in the package, including the six early works of the pioneer of the world cinema, the inventor and director Thomas Edison.
