Tsunami on Java: 37 people died

As a result of the tsunami on the Indonesian island of Java, according to the latest data, 37 people were killed. According to Reuters with reference to local authorities, the number of dead can increase, since rescuers are now exploring the blockages left by the wave.

Tsunami hit the southern coast of Java on Monday after a strong earthquake at sea. Previously reported five dead.

Earlier, the head of the consular department of the Russian embassy in Indonesia, Sergei Meshcheryakov, told Ekhu Moscow that no Russian tourist in the embassy has now been registered.

In December 2004, about 200 thousand people died as a result of the tsunami in Southeast Asia.
