Explosion near the mosque in the Iraqi city of Kuf: 60 dead, over 90 wounded

In the Iraqi city of Kuf, on Tuesday morning, there was an explosion of a filled machine with an explosive car. As a result of the explosion, 57 people died, over 90 were injured, the Iraqi police said on Tuesday.

The explosive device worked in a crowd of workers in one of the local markets, next to which the mosque is located. According to eyewitnesses, riots flashed at the scene after the explosion. Locals - adherents of the Shiite branch of Islam - threw arrived police officers. The servants of the order tried to disperse the crowd, opening the fire into the air. Several people were injured.

Kuf, located 150 km south of Baghdad, is one of the largest Shiite religious centers in the country. The mosques and crowded markets of the city have repeatedly become the target of militants, ITAR-TASS reports.

In early July, as a result of a suicide bomb, 12 people died here, mostly Iranian dumplings, and over 40 were injured.
