| Yesterday, the Belarusian opposition was going to celebrate an alternative independence day, but there were no protests. It was not possible to obtain permission for the rallies. Let us explain that on July 27, 1990, the Supreme Council of Belarus adopted a resolution on the day of declaration of independence, and the opposition reveres it. But in 1996, on the initiative of Alexander Lukashenko, this holiday was moved to July 3, which was previously celebrated as the day of the liberation of Minsk from the fascist invaders. Opponents of the government do not recognize this holiday.
