Lithuania will be able to introduce euros in the country no earlier than 2010. This was stated today by the Minister of Finance of the Baltic Republic Sigmantas Balchitis.
Initially, Lithuania planned to switch to Euro since 2007. However, the European commission in May announced that the Baltic Republic is not ready for this, since it exceeded inflationary indicators, it recalls Interfax.
According to the head of the country's financial department, "Lithuania has already begun close consultations with the EC regarding the transfer of the deadline and began to carefully prepare this process so as not to burn myself for the second time."
Officially, the government plans to publish the date in September, Balchitis explained. At the same time, "the date should be economically justified so that Lithuania is enough time to good preparation for joining the euro zone."
