One of the questions that is constantly discussed in society after the events in Beslan is what was the real number of terrorists who seized secondary school No. 1 on 09/01/2004. The official figures for today are: School No. 1 in Beslan was captured by 32 terrorists, including two women:
<...> According to the generally accepted version, both women died in the evening on 09/01/2004 in room No. 10, - the first classroom to the left when leaving the corridor connecting the gym with the main building of school No. 1, into the main corridor of the main building of the school on ground floor.
There are three versions of the death of two women who were part of a terrorist group:
Version 1. Female terrorists blew themselves up
Appendix No. 1 to this Part 5 lists all available testimonies of hostages and witnesses who mentioned the words “shahids” in their testimonies; there were about 120 such testimonies (see on the Novaya website. - Ed.).
Hostage testimonies supporting Version 1 include the following:
Berdikova Z.R.: “Here is Alexander Mikhailovich (Mikhailov. - Approx.), He was also with us. He said that he was taken out to be killed, and there the “shahidka” exploded, and he remained to live.”
(And also: Dudieva F.M., Kudzaeva A.Sh., Salkazanova V.U., S.A. Urmanov, Bedoeva Z.B., Dzarasov K.Kh., Gubiev B.I., Khumarov A.G. .)
Version 2. Female terrorists were blown up by the Colonel (R. Khuchbarov)
The following indications are of interest:
Khanaeva A.A .: “In the evening, it was between 9 and 10 pm, in a small school corridor, I heard a dispute between a man and a woman. She shouted in Russian without an accent: “I won’t! You said it was the police department!” After that, between 9 and 10 pm, they said that one suicide bomber was blown up, and the second one died from shrapnel: she was standing nearby. Undermined, probably, the leader.
Dzarasova EN: “They shot the suicide bombers. My Kazik told me: “One threw her gun and said: “I won’t go against the children!”. Then, she says, they shot her: some kind of Colonel. And then he shot the other one.
Version 3. Female terrorists were killed as a result of shelling of the school corridor with shots from outside (outside) the school on the first day of 09/01/2004.
This is one of the unusual versions of the death of female terrorists, and with them a group of hostages and terrorists. After all, already in the afternoon of 09/01/2004, an ultimatum note handed over by terrorists from the school was known: if someone from their group is killed or injured, some hostages will be killed (a terrible calculation followed). Nevertheless, the terrorists themselves voiced a version about an attempt to storm the school on the evening of 09/01/2004, as a result of which the “shahids” died.
On this occasion, the hostages testified:
Mamitova L.D.: “When all the work was completed (on laying the windows of the main corridor of the school - Approx.), The men were all squatted around one room next to the gym (on both sides of the door leading to room 10 of the primary classes on the first floor. - Approx.).
I was sitting at the end of the corridor Then there was such a powerful explosion: I already saw that it was as if snow was flying at me. My son and I fell down the stairs, and a shootout started in the corridor. The militants did not understand what had happened… They started shooting. Then I was wounded in the leg and deafened. The militants tell me: “You see, your assault has begun!” When they took me out into the corridor again, I saw that our men had been scattered in different directions from the explosion. Many, six people, were already dead, many were wounded, blood was gushing, whose buttocks were smashed, whose eyes were knocked out (L.D. Mamitova - an ambulance doctor in the Beslan city hospital. - Approx.), Was one of the militants was mortally wounded.
Ailyarov Yu.R.: “We stood at the windows (corridor) with our hands tied behind our heads for about 3 hours. Then they gathered us again, put us in the corridor facing the wall, where they sat for about an hour and a half. And at that moment, a grenade flew through the window from the side of the railway into the corridor where we were sitting, which fell and exploded right next to us. I was stunned, wounded in the arm and head by shrapnel... One of the terrorists ordered the other hostages, who were not wounded, to be carried and put in the gym. They took him to the gym."
Bziev S.R.: “On the night of September 1-2, two hostages were killed and 7 were injured from an explosion in the school building from a grenade launcher. He himself was shell-shocked. One of the terrorists died.
(Similar testimony was given by: Midzieva I.S., Kudzieva L.A., Toptun M.V., Toguzov T.V., Dzaparova O.K.)
The circumstances under which it is theoretically possible for a grenade to hit the main corridor of the school in the area of the door of office No. 10 from the side of the railway tracks are as follows:
- a shot from a grenade launcher was to be fired from the side of the DOSAAF building and private houses located on the even side of Komintern Street;
- the grenade was supposed to fly into the lower window, fifteenth from the northern corner of the school, located in office No. 6, while the window had to be open to prevent premature activation of the grenade fuse;
- the grenade was supposed to fly through the open door of the cab. No. 6 and get into the doorway of cab. No. 10, in which at that moment one of the female terrorists should have been standing.
There are no other possibilities for a grenade to hit the main corridor from the side of the front door to office No. 10.
On the number of women in a terrorist group
The hostages who were in the sports hall made an involuntary classification of female terrorists who were in the gym during the whole daytime and part of the evening, according to the signs of their difference from each other.
These signs include:
- color of clothing (black or gray);
- the color of the sneakers (black or gray);
- distinctive features of the figure (thin, tall, girlish or established female type of figure);
— subjective estimates of age.
Of the 120 hostages who reported some information about female terrorists, only 52 people indicated the color of their clothing, of which:
- both shahid women were dressed in a black (dark) hijab - 40 people. (77%);
- both shahid women were dressed in typical gray clothes - 2 pers. (3.8%);
- one wore a black hijab, and the other - gray - 10 people. (19.2%).
The fact that a little more than three-quarters of the hostages (77%) pointed to the black color of the clothes of female terrorists, whom they saw on the first day of the seizure of school No. 1, still does not give any reason to conclude that all the suicide bombers were wearing black color.
After all, almost 25% of the hostages confidently identify the differences in the clothes of suicide bombers: black and gray clothes. One is in black, the other is in grey.
It is also difficult to discard two indications:
— Levina Z.A.,
— Tomaeva L.A.,
especially the last one, Tomaeva, who, judging by the exhaustively informative testimonies during the trial of N. Kulaev, showed a rare observation for such a stressful situation: both testified that two suicide bombers were dressed in gray clothes, and Tomaeva even indicated the color of the eyes of both - blue.
The conclusion suggests itself that there were four shahids in the hall:
two were dressed in black clothes,
- two - in gray clothes,
and they, replacing each other, spent almost the whole day in the gym on September 1, 2004.
Of course, one could always assume that due to the hot weather, the two female terrorists had another change of clothes - gray, which allowed them to periodically appear in gray clothes, then in black. However, the color of the shahid women's clothes is important, but not the only characteristic of their individuality.
The fact that women were watching women (terrorists) in the hall allows us to find other, no less important, individual characteristics of each of the groups of suicide bombers.
More than 10 hostages indicate that the shahids were very young (or young) women...
An important circumstance is the fact that some hostages, such as Dzestelova A.B., Misikov K.D. and others saw three female suicide bombers at the same time in the gym.
Judging by the descriptions of the "third" female terrorist, she may be the woman who sits next to the militant loading his machine gun in the sports hall on September 1, 2004.
Finally, another important piece of evidence of the difference is the indications about the color of the sneakers worn by each of the groups of shahids:
- Dzestelova A.B .: “They were wearing sneakers about 45 sizes of gray ... By the figure it was possible to determine that they were very young, but the sneakers were very large, gray.”
- Ezhikevich R.Z.: “Among the terrorists, I saw two women of the same build, about 160 cm tall. Both were wearing dark sneakers.”
Dzestelova A.B. meant sneakers that can be seen on the foot of one of the terrorists who died in an explosion on the threshold of office No. 10, standing in the doorway on September 1, 2004.
When describing the scene of the incident (the place of death of the suicide bomber), the investigator of the prosecutor's office wrote down:
Art. Prosecutor of the Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus M. Semisynova: “During the examination, two legs in black harem pants and a woman's head were found in the office: these are fragments of a shakhidka. Here is the corpse of the second suicide bomber dressed in black, the corpse was wearing a leather belt, wrapped with adhesive tape.
... Dzestelova A.B. was right in describing the unusually large size of the gray sneaker on the leg of a reclining woman: it is several numbers larger than the leg.
Dark sneakers are clearly visible on the legs of another female terrorist: these sneakers are in complete harmony with the color of the woman’s clothing and with the size of her legs (photos on the Novaya website. - Approx. ed.). Gray sneakers, indeed, size 45, are complete disharmony with such a carefully planned terrorist operation.
Female sniper in a terrorist group
About a woman, allegedly a sniper, as part of a terrorist group, several people from among the hostages gave official testimony. The descriptions of the terrorist made by Z. Pukhaeva and K. Misikov almost completely coincide...
... Witness-hostage K.D. Misikov:
“On the second floor, I saw a woman… fair-haired, of a larger build than the other two (shahid women). Next to her was a sniper rifle and what I determined was a scope. She was also wearing dark clothes (brown). And she put something dark on her head… I saw this woman on the second day… Her hair was blond, she didn't have a shahids belt. She smoked."
Witness-hostage Pukhayeva Z.R.:
“On the second day, we were allowed to go with our son to a normal toilet, and he was near the dining room. There was a woman of Slavic nationality standing there. I even confirmed this to the prosecutor's office. But for some reason no one talks about it. There was a woman of clearly Slavic nationality. She had a long ponytail... She had a long rifle with a telescopic sight. Approximately 175 cm tall, chubby, with long hair, blonde, dressed in a khaki jumpsuit, black boots on her feet and gloves with cut off fingers on her hands.
Main conclusions about the number of women in the terrorist group that seized secondary school No. 1 in the city of Beslan
- four female terrorists, replacing each other, were during the entire first day (09/01/2004) in the sports hall;
- the fifth female terrorist, allegedly part of the terrorist sniper group, was constantly on the second floor of the school (possibly in the attic).
Two of the four female terrorists who were in the gym died in the explosions during the first day: their bodies in a black hijab, on the legs of one - gray sneakers, and on the legs of the other - black sneakers, were found in office No. 10 (room elementary grades) on the first floor of secondary school No. 1 during the inspection of the school premises.
Further investigation required:
3.1. About the circumstances of penetration into school No. 1 of three additionally identified female terrorists.
3.2. About the circumstances of their disappearance from secondary school No. 1 after committing crimes as part of a terrorist group.
3.3. About the circumstances and causes of the death of two female terrorists, whose bodies were found in class No. 10 of secondary school No. 1,
namely:
Did they blow themselves up
— whether they were blown up or shot by the terrorists themselves,
- whether the grenade that flew into the school corridor through the window and the door of class No. 6 into the main corridor of the school was the cause of their death.
VI. About losses among the hostages in the premises of school No. 1 outside the sports hall
