| In the Krasnodar Territory, right at the entrance to the regional center on the Krasnodar-Eysk highway yesterday at 7.25 am, a large-scale “chain” traffic accident occurred, in which, according to updated data, 62 cars were involved. As a result of the accident, one person was killed and more than 40 were injured. Six ambulance crews worked at the scene of the disaster, all victims were taken to hospitals. The deceased is a 19-year-old resident of Kuban. By yesterday evening, 42 victims remained in hospitals in Krasnodar. The condition of five of them was assessed by doctors as serious. The remaining 37 received non-life-threatening injuries, and some of them were released home after first aid was provided. According to the head of the traffic police department of the Krasnodar region, Gennady Kazyulin, the main reason for the incident was the drivers’ failure to comply with the speed limit and driving distance in conditions of very heavy fog that covered more than a 30-kilometer section of the highway. Visibility in the place where the collision occurred - not far from the traffic police post at the entrance to Krasnodar and the Vitaminkombinat bus stop - was only four meters. Based on the fact of the emergency, the prosecutor's office of the Kubansky district of Krasnodar opened a criminal case under Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules resulting in the death of a person through negligence). However, already in the first hours of work at the scene of the disaster, police officers, from the words of eyewitnesses, reconstructed the picture of what happened. First, one car caught up and hit another car moving in front, then it braked sharply and was immediately hit in the trunk. Then a “chain reaction” occurred - the flow was dense, and the cars crashed into each other. A fire started almost immediately at the epicenter of the accident. It is assumed that it was caused by the fact that many cars were equipped with gas cylinder equipment . Four fire crews arrived at the scene of the accident and fought the fire for more than half an hour. 11 cars and one truck were completely burned out. Commenting on this emergency, the head of the regional traffic police department, Gennady Kazyulin, said that now the number of cars in Kuban is “almost the same as in the West,” and therefore we should expect that “chain” accidents will now happen here just as often. Yesterday morning, on the same Krasnodar-Eisk highway, in the same fog, another disaster occurred in which five people died. Not far from the village of Staroshcherbinovskaya, a BMW car hit a pedestrian, changed its trajectory, flew into the oncoming lane and tangentially hit a sightseeing bus traveling from Rostov-on-Don to Yeisk, in which 47 people were traveling. The pedestrian and four people in the BMW died from their injuries on the spot. Igor GLANIN, Krasnodar region
