For the first time in recent hockey history, an odd number of teams started in it - 19 (due to the well-known tragedy with the Moscow Spartak), but how many will survive until spring and remain afloat due to economic reasons, is unknown even to the president of the FHR. Contrary to the declared slogan “Everything for the national team!” (in connection with the home world championship) the previous system of drawing with three circles and access to the playoffs of 16 teams was left in force. Moscow hockey during the World Championship season generally has a “reverse renaissance” - it actually does not pretend to anything (which is also at odds with the slogans of the new time). Unless Mytishchi, with the support of Chekhov and Podolsk, will raise the banner of capital hockey high, but the region will not share its achievements (if any).

There are too many losses, there are still few discoveries, but not to say that there are none at all. Young Russian goalkeepers take to the ice in Magnitogorsk, Khimik, Traktor, CSKA, Lada - and play and compete with highly experienced legionnaires, and do not want to give up their place. Rigid opposition to the dominance of foreign goalkeepers is perhaps one of the few positions of the new president of the FHR that does not cause much controversy.
